Cashier duties and responsibilities

The primary duties and responsibilities of a head cashier involve interacting with customers, providing a positive experience and ensuring that the other cashiers are prepared to do the same.

• Ensure that the checkout section is orderly and secure.

• Collect and pay checks, credit cards, and wire transfer; and complete each transaction in line with enacted principles and procedures.

• Designate duties to the cashier unit daily and decide on extent of daily workload.

Requirements & Skills 2

• Effective customer service (service orientation etc.)

• Experience as a cashier is desirable.

• Basic math and computer skills.

• Familiarity with cash desk equipment, such as point-of-sale (POS) machines, scanners, cash drawers, etc.

• Customer service experience desirable.

• Polite and courteous.

• Ability to handle a high volume of transactions

• Having a retail billing counter experience.
