Job Overview:
The Floor Member / Steward plays a vital role in supporting the smooth operation of the front-of-house team in a restaurant or hospitality setting. They assist with the general upkeep of the dining area, ensure cleanliness, and help maintain a welcoming environment for guests. The steward also supports the serving team by setting up tables, clearing dishes, refilling drinks, and ensuring the restaurant is fully stocked with necessary items for a seamless dining experience.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Dining Area Cleanliness & Maintenance:
o Ensure that tables, chairs, and the dining area are clean, organized, and well-maintained throughout service.
o Assist in setting up tables before service, ensuring proper placement of cutlery, glassware, and napkins.
o Clear dishes, glassware, and utensils promptly after guests finish their meals, ensuring tables are ready for new guests.
o Maintain the cleanliness of the restaurant’s floors, restrooms, and other public areas.
2. Support to Service Staff:
o Assist wait staff by delivering drinks, bread, or appetizers to tables as needed.
o Refill water glasses and assist with other guest needs during the dining experience.
o Help with the delivery of food from the kitchen to the guests, ensuring food is presented properly and at the correct temperature.
o Assist in removing dirty plates and cutlery from tables efficiently.
3. Stocking & Inventory Assistance:
o Help ensure that service areas, including stations for drinks, condiments, and silverware, are stocked and ready for service.
o Replenish stock of supplies in the dining area, such as napkins, straws, condiments, and utensils.
o Assist in organizing storage areas, including ensuring the proper organization of clean dishes, glassware, and kitchenware.
4. Guest Interaction:
o Greet guests as they enter or exit the restaurant, ensuring a friendly and welcoming environment.
o Assist guests with minor requests or inquiries while providing courteous and helpful service.
o Ensure guests feel comfortable and attend to their needs during their visit, assisting the floor team with any additional service requests.
5. Collaboration with Kitchen and Service Team:
o Coordinate with kitchen staff to ensure that food orders are correctly prepared and delivered to guests.
o Work with wait staff to ensure timely and efficient service, helping out where needed to ensure a smooth flow of operations.
o Assist in maintaining the pace of service, ensuring there are no delays in delivering food or clearing tables.
6. Safety & Hygiene:
o Follow all food safety and sanitation guidelines, ensuring cleanliness of work areas and equipment.
o Assist with deep cleaning tasks as required, including periodic cleaning of kitchen utensils and restaurant surfaces.
o Ensure compliance with health and safety regulations, including appropriate handling of food and drinks.
7. End of Shift Duties:
o Help with the end-of-day cleaning and reset for the next shift, including taking out trash, wiping down tables, and organizing the dining area.
o Assist in packing up any unused stock and ensuring all cleaning tasks are completed to standard.
o Report any maintenance issues or safety hazards to management.
Skills & Qualifications:
• Previous experience in a restaurant or hospitality role is preferred but not required.
• Strong communication skills and the ability to work well in a team environment.

• Good physical stamina, as the role involves standing for extended periods, lifting items, and moving quickly between areas.
