Position Overview:
The E-Commerce Accountant will be responsible for managing financial transactions specific to the e-commerce business, maintaining accurate financial records, preparing reports, and ensuring compliance with accounting standards. This role requires a strong understanding of e-commerce platforms and related accounting practices, with a focus on ensuring accurate financial reporting and improving operational efficiency.
Key Responsibilities:
E-Commerce Financial Reporting: Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements related to the e-commerce business, ensuring accuracy and compliance with accounting principles.
Accounts Payable & Receivable (E-Commerce Specific): Manage and process e-commerce transactions such as vendor payments, platform fees, refunds, returns, and customer collections.
Sales and Revenue Recognition: Track e-commerce sales, returns, and adjustments, ensuring proper revenue recognition in compliance with accounting standards and platform requirements.
Inventory Management & Cost of Goods Sold (COGS): Manage inventory records, reconcile inventory movements, and calculate the cost of goods sold (COGS) accurately, taking into account e-commerce platforms and logistics.
Marketplace and Platform Reconciliation: Reconcile e-commerce transactions from various online marketplaces (e.g., Amazon, eBay, Shopify) and payment processors (e.g., PayPal, Stripe), ensuring all sales and fees are accounted for.
VAT/GST and Tax Compliance for E-Commerce: Assist with the preparation of VAT/GST returns, and ensure compliance with local and international tax regulations as applicable to e-commerce sales.
Bank and Payment Gateway Reconciliation: Reconcile payment gateway and bank transactions related to e-commerce sales, refunds, and fees.
Profitability Analysis: Analyze e-commerce margins, transaction fees, and other costs to identify opportunities for improving profitability.
Audit Support: Assist with internal and external audits, providing necessary documentation and ensuring smooth audit processes.
Internal Controls for E-Commerce Accounting: Help design and implement internal controls and procedures to ensure financial accuracy, especially related to e-commerce transactions and platforms.
