Job Overview:
The Bartender is responsible for preparing and serving alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages to customers in a restaurant, bar, or hospitality setting. They ensure that drinks are made to the highest standards, deliver excellent customer service, maintain a clean and organized bar, and contribute to the overall positive guest experience. The bartender also manages cash handling, monitors inventory levels, and follows health and safety regulations.
Key Responsibilities:
1. Drink Preparation & Service:
o Prepare and serve a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, including cocktails, beers, wines, and soft drinks.
o Follow recipes and ensure consistency in taste, appearance, and presentation of drinks.
o Greet customers at the bar, take drink orders, and provide recommendations based on customer preferences.
o Serve drinks in a timely and efficient manner, ensuring guest satisfaction.
2. Customer Service Excellence:
o Provide outstanding customer service by interacting with guests in a friendly and professional manner.
o Address customer inquiries or concerns regarding drinks or menu options and provide prompt resolutions.
o Engage with customers to ensure they have a positive experience at the bar and assist with any special requests.
o Maintain a clean and inviting bar environment to encourage guest comfort and repeat visits.
3. Cash Handling & Transactions:
o Accurately handle cash, credit card transactions, and process payments for beverages and food items.
o Provide guests with accurate change, receipts, and transaction information.
o Follow company policies regarding cash handling, tips, and financial procedures.
4. Bar Setup & Maintenance:
o Set up the bar before service, ensuring all necessary supplies, glassware, and tools are in place.
o Clean and maintain the bar area throughout the shift, including wiping down counters, cleaning glassware, and ensuring the bar is organized.
o Restock supplies such as liquor, garnishes, and mixers as needed to maintain uninterrupted service.
o Maintain the cleanliness and order of the bar, including washing dishes and properly disposing of waste.
5. Inventory & Stock Management:
o Monitor inventory levels for liquor, mixers, garnishes, and glassware, ensuring supplies are always stocked.
o Assist with receiving deliveries, checking the quality and quantity of stock, and organizing supplies.
o Inform the Bar Supervisor or Manager when stock levels are low or if supplies need to be reordered.
6. Health & Safety Compliance:
o Adhere to all health, safety, and hygiene regulations, ensuring the bar and its equipment are sanitized regularly.
o Follow responsible alcohol service guidelines, including verifying the age of customers and refusing service to intoxicated guests.
o Maintain a safe working environment for both guests and staff, reporting any hazards or safety concerns to management.
7. Creating Signature Cocktails & Specials:
o Stay updated on current drink trends and innovations to create new, unique cocktails and drink specials.
o Assist in developing and promoting new drink offerings or themed specials to enhance the guest experience and increase sales.
8. Team Collaboration:
o Work with other bartenders, servers, and kitchen staff to ensure efficient service and meet guest needs.
o Support team members during busy periods by assisting with drink orders, refilling garnishes, and maintaining the bar area.
Skills & Qualifications:
• Proven experience as a bartender or in a similar customer service role, preferably in a bar or hospitality setting.
• Knowledge of drink recipes, bar equipment, and cocktail preparation techniques.
• Strong customer service skills with the ability to engage with guests and make them feel comfortable.
• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment, especially during peak hours.
• Attention to detail and high standards of cleanliness and organization.
• Ability to multitask and handle multiple orders at once while providing excellent service.
• Basic math skills for cash handling and drink measurements.
• Ability to handle alcohol responsibly and enforce laws related to alcohol service.
