Staff Nurse

A Staff Nurse in a Radiology department provides pre, intra, and post-procedure patient care for imaging procedures like X-rays, CT scans, and MRIs. This includes preparing patients for procedures, educating them about what to expect, monitoring vital signs, and administering medications as needed. They also play a crucial role in patient safety and comfort during and after the procedures. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Patient Preparation:

  Explain procedures to patients, obtain informed consent, ensure they follow pre-procedure instructions (e.g., fasting, medication adjustments), and assess for allergies or contraindications. 

• Patient Monitoring:

  Closely monitor vital signs (blood pressure, heart rate, oxygen saturation), assess patient comfort and mental state, and alert medical staff to any changes or complications. 

• Medication Administration:

  Administer pre-procedural medications (e.g., sedation, analgesia) and post-procedural medications as prescribed. 

• IV Care:

  Establish and maintain IV lines, administer intravenous contrast, and monitor for any reactions. 

• Patient Education:

  Provide clear and concise instructions to patients and their families regarding the procedure, what to expect, and post-procedure care. 

• Post-Procedure Care:

  Monitor patients in the recovery area, manage pain, assist with personal care, and prepare patients for discharge. 

• Safety and Security:

  Ensure a safe and secure environment for patients, including proper handling of equipment and adherence to infection control protocols. 

• Documentation:

  Accurately document patient assessments, medications administered, vital signs, and any significant events during the procedure. 

• Collaboration:

  Collaborate with radiologists, radiology technicians, and other healthcare professionals to ensure seamless patient care.
