 Should not be involved in household jobs e.g. preparing kitchen feeds, cleaning the utensils and rest rooms etc.

Position Overview:

The General Duty Assistant (GDA) plays a vital role in supporting the delivery of home healthcare services. As a member of the home healthcare team, the GDA provides non-clinical assistance to patients and healthcare professionals, ensuring a safe and comfortable environment for patients receiving care at home.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Patient Support: Assist patients with their activities of daily living, including personal hygiene, dressing, feeding, mobility, and toileting. Provide emotional support and companionship to enhance the overall well-being of patients.

2. Vital Sign Monitoring: Measure and record patients' vital signs, such as temperature, pulse rate, blood pressure, and respiratory rate, as directed by healthcare professionals. Report any significant changes or abnormalities promptly.

3. Mobility Assistance: Assist patients with mobility and transfers, using appropriate techniques and equipment to ensure patient safety. Help patients with exercises and ambulation as directed by the healthcare team.

4. Home Safety: Identify potential hazards in the patient's home environment and take necessary precautions to promote safety. Ensure the cleanliness and organization of the patient's living space, making it conducive to recovery and comfort.

5. Medical Equipment Support: Set up and maintain medical equipment and assist healthcare professionals in using specialized equipment during patient care. Ensure proper cleaning, storage, and maintenance of equipment.

6. Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and timely documentation of patient care activities, including vital signs, assistance provided, and any observed changes in patients' conditions. Report concerns or observations to the healthcare team.

7. Communication and Coordination: Maintain effective communication with patients, their families, and healthcare professionals. Relay relevant information and updates to the appropriate individuals to ensure continuity of care.

8. Infection Control: Adhere to infection control protocols and follow proper hand hygiene practices to prevent the spread of infections. Maintain a clean and sterile environment, including proper disposal of waste materials.

Requirements:

- High school diploma or equivalent.

- Previous experience as a nursing assistant, caregiver, or similar role is preferred.

- Basic knowledge of healthcare practices and procedures.

- Excellent communication skills and the ability to interact compassionately with patients and their families.

- Empathy, patience, and a genuine desire to help others.

- Ability to follow directions, work in a team, and take initiative when required.

- Physical stamina and the ability to lift and move patients safely.

- Basic understanding of medical terminology and equipment used in home healthcare.

- Flexibility to work varying shifts, including evenings, weekends, and holidays.

- Reliable transportation to travel to patients' homes.
