Academic Counsellor

Job Summary: The Academic Counselor will provide personalized academic guidance and support to students, helping them navigate their educational journey, set and achieve academic goals, and address challenges that may arise throughout their academic career. The role requires a deep understanding of academic policies, student development, and the ability to work collaboratively with faculty, administration, and students.

Key Responsibilities:

• Provide one-on-one counseling to students on academic matters, including course selection, degree planning, and academic progress.

• Assist students in developing effective study skills, time management strategies, and problem-solving techniques to support academic success.

• Monitor student academic progress and offer guidance on strategies for improving academic performance.

• Work with students to identify and address academic challenges, such as personal, psychological, or learning barriers.

• Advise students on academic probation or dismissal, guiding them through the process and providing resources for improvement.

• Collaborate with faculty and other staff members to support students in achieving academic goals.

• Keep updated records of student progress, counseling sessions, and academic advice given.

• Offer workshops and seminars on academic topics, including study strategies, time management, and test preparation.

• Provide guidance on career exploration and potential academic pathways.

• Promote a holistic approach to student development, ensuring the well-being of students in both academic and personal contexts.

• Stay informed about the latest trends in academic advising and counseling, and apply best practices in student engagement and support.

Qualifications:

• Master’s degree in Education, Counseling, Psychology, or related field (required).

• Previous experience in academic counseling, student services, or a related role (preferred).

• Knowledge of academic policies, procedures, and student development theories.

• Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build rapport with students from diverse backgrounds.

• Excellent communication and organizational skills.

• Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.

• Empathy and active listening skills to effectively address student concerns.

• Proficiency in using student management software and Microsoft Office Suite.
